WATER WORLD: The water level at Kampung Seberang has almost breached the floor of the houses built on stilts.

UNDER WATER: Another scene of the flood at one of the houses in Kampung Seberang.

LAWAS: Heavy rain coupled with high tide on Wednesday caused several low-lying areas here such as Kampung Seberang to be under a metre of water.

The villagers woke up in the morning to find flood waters under their stilt houses. Farming areas were also under several feet of water making daily activities there impossible.

Fire and Rescue Department, meanwhile, sprang into action and monitored the flood situation as they anticipated the flood to be bad this time.

The authorities are advising the villagers to be wary as heavy rains were expected in the next few days.

Other areas here such as Damit and Merapok near the Sabah border are also staring at impending flood as the rivers from Sabah are about to burst their banks.

Sundar District SAO Ladin Atok said the situation in low-lying areas in Sundar was under control although the rivers are full.

He advised the local people to keep their valuable and important documents in a safe and be ready to evacuate when the orders were given. The relief centres are community halls in Sundar and Trusan.

The Lawas district disaster and relief committee, meanwhile, has been placed on alert although the operation room is still close.

Other agencies such as Police and Road Transport Department are also keeping an eye on the situation, including the Pan Borneo trunk road linking Lawas, Sabah and Brunei.

RTD chief here, Julaihee Dison, advised road users to drive carefully during the rain and in flood affected stretches to avoid any untoward incidents.
