MIRI: Police detained a 23-year-old college student yesterday for allegedly posting racist comments on a page of social networking site Facebook.

When contacted yesterday, Miri police chief ACP Mun Kock Keong confirmed that the suspect turned himself in at the Miri Central police station around 1am.

“The case is being investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing racial disharmony,” said Mun.

He said such an irresponsible act could create disharmony amongst the various races in the country.

It is said that on Monday (Dec 16), comments insulting Prophet Muhammad were allegedly posted on the Facebook page.

This led Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida) Miri branch members to file a report on the post.
