MIRI: Area Sarawak Convention (ASC) 2014, which will be held from May 16 to 18, is expected to be one of the highlights of Miri May Fest this year.
Organised by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Lutong, the conference is expected to attract over 100 JCI members from around the country as well as members of the public.
“This is a golden opportunity for our youths to take part to exchange ideas, address their creativity and learn how to maximise their local impact and contribution to the society.
“This year, we will be focusing on developing technology by encouraging the youths to use their knowledge and interest to create a mobile application for the medical field,” newly-appointed president Benson Kuan told a press conference here yesterday.
Themed ‘On Fire’, which stands for Real, Enthusiastic, Impact and Fighting, Kuan said the conference is a platform for JCI members to focus on issues relating to their surrounding and to create positive changes in the community.
He also said various activities involving youths and the public would be held during the three-day conference.
The press conference was also attended by JCI national president Andy Ting King Dieng, honorary treasurer Kueh Sze Ling, honorary secretary Tan Chin Jie and internal vice-president Kelvin Ho Yin Jiet.
Mayor Lawrence Lai, on the other hand, praised JCI Lutong for organising the event.
“ASC could be a good place for local youths to know other youths and learn from each others’ experience,” he said.
Besides the convention, JCI Lutong will be organising an English Singing Competition in May.
The preliminary round will be held on April 20 at the exhibition hall of Boulevard Shopping Mall, while the final round will be held on May 1 at Atrium 3, 1st Floor, Permaisuri Imperial City Mall here.
