MIRI: Teachers ought to be information technology (IT) savvy in order to communicate and work well with their students.
Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin said this was also important in order to understand the younger generation better.
“Nowadays, there are even special languages used for sending SMS,” he said when officiating at SJK (C) Chung Hua Miri’s school management and school board committee’s Chinese New Year gathering at Grand Palace Hotel yesterday.
Among those present were Temenggong Lee Sie Tong, school headmistress Tan Ai Chu and SRB Chung Hua School Board Committee chairman Lee Choon Seng.
Commenting on the CNY gathering, Lee said it was a good occasion for the school to show appreciation to its teachers, staff and board members.
“It not only goes to show that the school appreciates them, but it is also a good way to motivate the teachers.
“Everyone here is like a member of SJK (C) Chung Hua Miri’s big family and this event serves as a venue for them to foster closer ties and mingle with one another.”
He noted that the event also formed a part of an effort by the school to promote the Chinese culture of family reunion dinner.
“What we have today is like a Chinese New Year reunion dinner, a Chinese culture and tradition that has long been practised.”
