MIRI: Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin yesterday said he appreciates constructive and positive feedback from the people through social media such as Facebook.

“I certainly appreciate very constructive and positive feedback that enables me, including the authority concerned, to act on it and to resolve (the) problem,” said Lee who was responding to problems faced by visitors and tourists going into Miri through Sungai Tujuh Border check-point.

Two regular travellers had highlighted problems to the assistant minister through his Facebook.

“I would like to get this kind of feedback. Together we can resolve the problem and improve the situation. The positive and constructive feedback can do good for the public and for the city image and the state as a whole,” he added.

He urged the people not to abuse the Internet by posting negative remarks, slandering messages on the establishment and individual. They can also provide and give positive and constructive remarks for the benefit of all.

According to Lee, reading all these comments and remarks made him understand and appreciate the urgency to improve and upgrade the facility. Sungai Tujuh Border check-point, which recorded a whopping figure of 2,984704 visitors and tourists going in and out last year, is regarded as a very important gateway to Sarawak and northern gateway to Miri.

From the feedback, ever since the Malaysian Immigration, Custom border check-point Sungai Tujuh shifted to the new building, the public facility

and landscape in the old building adjacent to Brunei border gets worse day by day.

There are a countless pot holes and some extremely large and dangerous to road users. Apart from that, the entire road that leads from the gate is always flooded on rainy days due to poor drainage with crater-like potholes.

Many regular drivers are distressed that there have been no upgrades at the entry and exit points of the old building which don’t appear to be safe and appealing to visitors in any manner. The eerie buildings, they contend, bring down the vibrant image of Miri indirectly and Malaysia as a whole.

Acting on the feedback, Lee said Immigration Department including Public Works Department and Miri City Council (MCC), had immediate sprang into action with both long and short term plans to upgrade the area.
