KUCHING: tHe Spring shopping mall was packed as a large crowd thronged the premises to witness the grand launching of the mall’s ‘Lunar New Year@The Spring, The Great Wall of China’ on Friday.

Kuching South City Council Mayor Dato James Chan graced the event and led a lavish tossing of the traditional ‘Yee Sang’ hosted by tHe Spring management and sponsored by Sakae Sushi.

The night was also made merrier with a lion dance by the Chinese Martial Art Association Kuching and 24 Festive Drums by Chung Hua Middle School No 1.

Chan said the Chinese New Year celebration was also a time of giving and caring for the less fortunate.

“Let us make this celebration a time for giving to those who are less fortunate and less privileged so that they too can share the joy. Let us all spread the spirit of giving and caring for one another to reflect unity and a loving society,” he said.

He expressed his hope for a good year ahead and urged the people to throw away the old and the obsolete for a positive year ahead.

The festivities culminated at the North Court with tHe Spring’s annual Chinese New Year bazaar.

The bazaar opens from 10am to 10 daily.

Shoppers can find their favourite goodies of ‘bak gua’, cookies, tit bits, and more from New Eastern Trading, Cheng Hong, Coldstorage, Wide Way Food Enterprise, Mandy Trading, Ee Wan Trading Company, The Gingerbread House, Old Street Enterprise and Taka Cake House.

In addition, with a total spending of RM150 in a single receipt, shoppers are entitled to redeem a free pack of ‘ang pows’ from the customer service counter on the ground floor.
