MIRI: More than 30 families from the low income group in Tudan settlement here received construction materials worth over RM50,000 from the government, to help them repair their houses and their leaking roofs.
The contributions were handed over to the recipients by Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin during a visit to the area yesterday.
“The construction materials are taken from the state government fund and it is one of the ways for the government to help the people, especially those from the low income group to improve their living standard,” he said.
Lee who is also Senadin assemblyman said the total cost (over RM50,000) also covers the repair works on the houses of two less fortunate families in the area.
The first house is a house of a blind man, Mangai Amton and his family, while the other house belongs to a senior citizen, Chow Chin Chin, who lives with his mentally handicapped son.
“The government is always concerned about the peoples’ well-being and helping them to live better and more comfortably is one of the government’s agenda,” he said.
He urged the people to appreciate what the government had done for them.
During his round yesterday, Lee also visited the house of Mangai and his family which has been repaired.
He later visited Chow’s house which was run down and had partly collapsed.
“Then condition of his house is very bad. Repair work will commence very soon as only part of the building materials have arrived. We hope the construction work can be completed speedily,” he said.
