SK Kuala Kenyana still closed due to flood

SIBU: SK Kuala Kenyana along a river bank in Mukah was the only school still closed yesterday due to the floods, according to information from the state Education Department.

SK Nanga Bon, SK Ulu Sg Sengan and SK Sg Salim had reopened.

SK Nanga Bon in Kemuyang area, some 40 minutes’ drive from town began class last Friday.

Its headmaster Joseph William said yesterday the school was closed for four days as the access road was inundated.

The school has 83 pupils, 12 teachers and three non-teaching staff.

Meanwhile, Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sibu chief Ting Sing Kwong said yesterday the water level was normal.

He said Ling Kai Cheng Road and Oya Road areas were dry.

Sibu Disaster Relief Committee chairman Sim Kok Kee had said a second wave of flash flood might occur here before and during the New Lunar Year.

Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah recently said the Welfare Department would still be monitoring the situation and be bracing for the possibility of second wave of flash
flood.

Close monitoring of flood situations in Sarawak was expected to continue until Chap Goh Mei (the 15th day of the Lunar New Year on Feb 14).
