MIRI: A frustrated resident of Pujut 6B here has resorted to hanging a warning sign on one of his banana trees to warn people not to steal the fruits.
The man in 40s who wish to be known as Uncle Jack claimed that the ripe fruits located a few feet from the roadside are often targeted by thieves.
“Angry with the frequent happening, I decided to hang the written sign,” he said.
According to Jack there are many banana trees growing there and the fruits are beginning to ripen.
The bananas are in demand to be sold as ‘cucur pisang’ in small ‘gerai’ in Miri.
When the fruits are ready to be harvested, thieves would sometimes even steal them in broad daylight
Jack said the thieves – probably two of them – pounce when the occupants are not at home.
The warning sign which is visible to passersby and roadusers is an attempt to protect what belongs to him.
Another sign in Bahasa Melayu said anyone found stealing the fruits will be reported to the police.
