KUCHING: Over 200 students and teachers of Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No.4 attended a Chinese traditional values and moral talk at the school yesterday.
The speaker was the principal of Chinese Traditional and Moral Values Education Association Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Cheong Wai Chee.
The theme was ‘Clear Your Plate, Stop Wasting’. It was to educate students to stop wasting food and save resources.
Met at the school yesterday, CHMS No.4 principal Johnny Kon said: “We welcome this kind of initiative to train our students to be better.”
He said it was a bad habit to waste food and many used to waste a lot of food at home, canteen and dinner. They were greedy to take much food but could not finish them in the end.
“We do not want this kind of habit to continue and become a culture being passed down to our future generations. So, we have to stop wasting food now. Education can start from school and students can go home to share with their friends and families,” he said.
He said the school also encouraged students to finish their food at school canteen. They were told to take the amount that they could eat.
“I also hope that parents and the elderly ones could set a good example for the children to follow. Whether young or old, all are encouraged to participate in this kind of activity as this is also a part of environment conservation,” he said.
