Party’s CWC to notify Sibu branch chief of disciplinary action personally, not through media

KUCHING: The SUPP Central Working Committee (CWC) has made a decision on the disciplinary action against SUPP Sibu branch chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh during its meeting at the party’s headquarters here last night.

However, the CWC decided not to reveal its decision to a posse of reporters who camped at the SUPP headquarters since 6.30pm expecting a decision on Wong’s fate in the party to be announced after the meeting.

A press statement issued by the party secretariat after the meeting said the CWC acknowledged that it had received the recommendations from the disciplinary committee on the show-cause letter sent to Wong and had discussed them at length.

“However, the CWC decided not to announce any decision that it had made in this regards via this press statement. Any decision made on the matter is privy between the member concerned and party.

“It is appropriate for the member to be properly informed by the way of a letter from the party’s secretariat before any announcement to the press.”

Party president Tan Sri Peter Chin chaired the CWC meeting that started at around 7.30pm and ended about three hours later.

Among those who were present at the meeting were party secretary-general Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, treasurer Datuk David Teng, vice presidents Datuk Lily Yong, Tan Joo Phoi and Andy Chia, organising secretary Datuk Alfred Yap, publicity and information secretary Datuk Sebastian Ting, Youth chief Tan Kai, Women chief Tnay Li Ping, deputy secretary general Matthew Chen and assistant secretary-general Ding Kuong Hiing.

Before the CWC meeting, Chin, Yap, Yong, Teng, Chia and Chen were seen having a private meeting, prompting media members to speculate a major announcement would be made.

Meanwhile, the party central secretariat called on Wong, who is the Local Government and Community Development Minister to carry out consultations with BN component parties as had been the practice of past years before making appointment of councillors and community leaders in the state by seeking the views of SUPP Party Central in regards to making such appointments.

“It is noted that despite previous letter and also press release by SUPP party central, such appointments were still being made without consultation and knowledge of the party leaders concerned,” party secretariat said.
