SIBU: Newly appointed longhouse chiefs Peter Tinggom Santat and Lidwina Mathew share a vision to bring development to their longhouses.
Lidwina, a 44-year-old mother of four, is the first woman from Tutus area to hold the post while Peter, a 54-year-old ex-army personnel, heads the longest longhouse in Bawang Assan area.
They were among 47 community leaders from Sibu and Sarikei divisions who received their appointment letters from Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh at a ceremony held in the Sibu Resident’s Office here on Monday.
“I want to bring water and electricity supplies as well as a road to my 20-door longhouse. We have been waiting so long for that,” Lidwina said.
Lidwina takes over as the former longhouse chief had passed away.
Peter said he would focus on leading residents of his 67-door longhouse in social development, economic growth and education. His longhouse already has the basic facilities.
He takes over from ex-Tuai Rumah Baseh who resigned due to old age.
