UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL: The main cast of ‘Ah Beng: Mission Impossible’ posing with their fans after the press conference yesterday.

KUCHING: Local Chinese film ‘Ah Beng: Mission Impossible’, which will premier nationwide this coming January 23, hopes to do better than ‘Ah Beng: Three Wishes’ in terms of ticket sales.

Actor Jack Lim, who plays Ah Beng in the movie, told reporters here yesterday that the producers hoped to rake in at least RM8 million from this movie.

Ah Beng: Three Wishes, a 2012 production, had pulled in RM7.55 million.

“It cost us RM3.5 million to produce and to promote Ah Beng: Mission Impossible. The first Ah Beng movie cost RM4.6 million to produce last year,” he said.

“We hope to do better this time around as the storyline is more touching, more exciting and, for the first time, several scenes were shot in South Korea, where we enjoyed very good support from the Korean government.”

Lim said Ah Beng: Mission Impossible involved 50 cast members, but not everybody are professional actors and actresses.

“However, everybody did their best and I am impressed with their commitment.”

Lim said in his 20 years in the industry, this was the first time he acted in a comedy film. Previously, he played serious characters, including that of a “hired killer”.

“Next year, I will be playing a serious role in a film with well- known Malaysian actor Rosyam Nor. I look forward to it.”

He described Ah Beng-Mission Impossible as a film that would suit family audience and young people.

“The story line and adventures in this time focussed on friendship, family values, and money. It also questions the integrity of the characters in the movie.”

Also present at the press conference were Jeff Chin, Mei Yan and Alvin Chong.
