BIG PRESENCE: Putit flags off the 46 bikers in the Konvoi Kembara Zakat from Majma Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.
KUCHING: The state-level National Zakat Month Celebration roared off yesterday on big bikes ridden by 46 Konvoi Kembara Zakat members to deliver ‘zakat’ contributions to beneficiaries in six locations here.
The group was flagged off by Sarawak Islamic Council president Datu Putit Matzen at Majma Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.
In his speech, Putit said the objective of this programme was to promote and disseminate information regarding the act of ‘zakat’ and its management by Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS).
“We want the Muslim community to be aware that ‘Zakat’ funds managed by this institution are used to complement socio-economic development programmes by the government.
“It is also to increase their understanding and trust about the mandatory and importance of ‘zakat’ management and legislation.”
Putit said TBS received a clean bill of health from the National Audit Department for their Financial Statement Audit for 13 years running.
He urged the Muslim community to continue supporting all programmes organised by TBS to make the National Zakat Month Celebrations a success.
Also present were Sarawak Islamic Religious Department director Ismail Hanis and Tabung Baitumal Sarawak general manager Datu Abg Mohd Shibli Mohd Nailie.
