SIBU: A septuagenarian from Delta Estate was yesterday cheated of her life savings after a group of women teamed up to con her.

The 75-year-old victim had gone to Rejang Park, where she met an unknown woman seeking her help.

The stranger said she was looking for a herb to treat her eight-year-old daughter, who was suffering from abnormal menstruation at an early age.

Another woman then joined the conversation, claiming she knew of a 103-year-old man who had the herb.

As the victim suffers from knee pain, the women asked her to go with them to see the man for help.

When they arrived at what was supposed to be the man’s house, they met another woman who claimed to be his granddaughter.

She claimed her grandfather was attending to an urgent matter, so the other women asked her to get the herb from him.

The granddaughter then left, returning later empty-handed but with ‘urgent news’ for the victim that her grandfather had purportedly seen an evil spirit dwelling in the victim’s house, which would cause her son to fall ill and die within five days.

As the victim’s son was coincidentally ill, she agreed to let the woman’s grandfather pray for her.

The granddaughter then instructed her to bring all her savings so they could hold prayers.

She obliged and brought her life savings of RM5,000, which the granddaughter took and wrapped together with the victim’s purse containing RM100 before ‘praying’ over the items.

When the victim returned home, she found that the money and wallet had been replaced with an egg and a bottle.

A family member later brought the woman to the police station to lodge a report.
