KUCHING: The annual Bio Borneo Conference and Exhibition returns to Sarawak this year.
It will be held on May 5-7 at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
Carrying the theme ‘Sustaining the Bio-economy Community’, Bio Borneo 2014 will involve specialist panellists who will discuss potential, opportunities, and bio-based technology developments in Borneo and the region.
The scope of the two-day conference also includes research advancement, intellectual property and commercialisation potential of biotechnology innovation.
A technical visit will be held on the third day for those interested in learning more about bioeconomy centric activities in Sarawak.
Bio Borneo 2014 also aims to share further on the Bioeconomy Transformation Programmes (BTP) in Malaysia for better networking and creating more collaboration between industry players.
Meanwhile, the exhibition is expected to draw exhibitors from government agencies, institutions of higher learning, research institutions and biotechnology-related industries.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), the event is hosted alternately between Sarawak and Sabah to provide a platform for sharing high-impact innovation and technology that can drive the bio-based economy in the region.
The event is jointly organised by Mosti, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC), Unimas and BiotechCorp, with support from the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture and Department of Agriculture.
