KUCHING: The distribution of 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) to the second batch of recipients in Mambong constituency is now in progress.

Describing the process as smooth and orderly, Siburan SAO Wilson Sipilak said the second batch comprises 6,486 recipients made up of families and unmarried adults, and the BR1M vouchers were distributed to them through their respective headmen.

“The 6,486 recipients are those receiving their BR1M through vouchers. For those who received payment direct through their bank account we don’t have the figure,” he told The Borneo Post here yesterday.

He said the first 5,681 recipients were paid through vouchers and as of yesterday about 98 per cent had been distributed.

“So the total receiving BR1M 3.0 through vouchers in Mambong constituency comprising Bengoh and Tarat state seats, as of today (yesterday) is 12,167 recipients,” he disclosed.

He was unsure of the total number of Mambong constituents eligible for BR1M 3.0 although last year 18,000 people from the constituency received the assistance.

“Whether the number of recipients this year has increased or otherwise we are not very sure because distribution is still ongoing. We believe that some more recipients will be getting their vouchers in the next batch but how many batches more to go that also we are unsure,” he said.

On the distribution process, Wilson said he was greatly relieved that it had been very smooth and orderly, thanks to the community leaders under his charge.

He asserted that unlike in previous BR1M distribution, this time it was more systematic as his office had decided to engage the headmen of respective villages to distribute vouchers to those under their charge.

“This is aimed at providing convenience to the recipients unlike before when everyone had to queue up at a common centre to receive their vouchers,” he explained at the launch of BR1M 3.0 for Mambong parliamentary level and presentation of disaster relief assistance to flood victims from Tarat and Bengoh state seats by Mambong MP Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit in Siburan near here recently.
