KUCHING: The owner of a Proton Saga that had not been on the road for over five years was stumped to receive a parking compound for overparking fines for that vehicle from Sibu Municipal Council.
According to 63-year-old Shuib Suhaimi, the letter sent to his home in Miri from SMC said he had owed SMC overparking compound of RM2 for parking his car at Jalan Wong Nai Siong in Sibu on Nov 3 last year.
Shuib said his Proton Saga with registration plate MF8489Q was left at the house of his son’s father-in-law for over five years as the family had bought new cars.
“The car never left Miri as it was jacked up on stands, so how can it travel hundreds of kilometres to Sibu last year?” Shuib asked.
“I urge SMC to check their online system to ensure such problems will not recur. It may be only RM2 but such incompetence will make the public lose their trust in the council,” he told The Borneo Post by phone yesterday.
