KUCHING: A group of old boys of Kuching’s St Thomas School donated softball equipment to their alma mater recently.

The Thomian Class of 1984 celebrated their 30th year reunion by visiting the school after a fun retreat in Lundu.

Over 39 schoolmates came together from as far as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore during the recent Chinese New Year holidays to retell old stories and relive memories.

To commemorate the reunion, they were keen to contribute in some small way to the school so when they learned that the school’s softball team was in dire need of new gloves, the old boys gathered over RM3,000 in funds to buy new gloves for the school team.

The equipment was sourced by the old boys and handed to the school team last week.

The school was a pioneer in softball in Kuching in the early 1970s. It has consistently produced winning teams.

The present team is voluntarily assisted and coached by a number of younger ex-players of the school, together with the teachers-in-charge.

Having been part of the team before, a few of the old boys of the Class of 1984 have scheduled a friendly match against the present team.
