MIRI: Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) here is equipped with two Mi-171 helicopters to deal with bush fires and the haze that may arise due to the current dry weather.
The helicopter has the capacity to carry 1,590 litres of water each.
“We are ready to face the possibility of haze that might arise following the dry weather currently,” Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin told a press conference after the attending a special briefing with the Bomba here, Department of Environment and Miri Resident Office at Lopeng Fire Station recently.
Furthermore, Lee added, various safety precautions have also been taken to help prevent the problem of haze from arising.
Among the precautions are drainage activation systems for several hot spots, activation of watch tower as well as issuing notices of the open burning offence to housing developers and the public at large.
“Miri Resident Office will also hold a special meeting with the related agencies on the prevention measures this Monday,” he added.
Lee also reminded Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) to continuously remind their village folks not to carry out any open burning.
At the same time, Lee said 17 bush fires have been reported from March 1-7, with the cases mostly happening in Kuala Baram, Permyjaya and Senadin.
