MARUDI: Central Baram Zone was declared overall champion of the three-day Primary Schools Sports Council (MSSR) inter-zone carnival that ended here on Sunday.
Second place went to Tinjar Zone and Tutoh Apoh Zone finished in third place.
Other zones that took part in the carnival were Lower Baram and Baram Ulu.
The closing and prize giving ceremony was held at the Baram Civic Centre here. It was graced by Baram education officer Yunus Apok who represented Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran.
In his short speech, Yunus Apok praised all the students participating in the carnival and their teachers for showing good team spirit that enabled the event to be held smoothly.
Meanwhile in the karaoke singing, Brian Ingan Lavung of Tutoh Apoh Zone, of SK Long Atip, was adjudged inter-zone champion in the boys section. Coming up second and third were Anderson Tadem of Central Baram Zone (SK Long Pilah) and Paulus Gallang of Lower Baram Zone (SJK Sg. Jaong) respectively. The girls section was won by Marciana Usat of Lower Baram Zone (SK Dato Sharif Hamid) while Kimberly George of Upper Baram Zone (SK Long Makabar) and Nigellia Arenny of Central Baram Zone (SK Ubong Imang) were declared first and second runners-up.
In Boria, Tutoh Apoh Zone was declared champion, with Central Baram Zone and Upper Baram Zone second and third.
The best boy award was Lucas Wan of Central Baram Zone and the best girl award went to Dolly Uring, also from Central Baram Zone.
