Country’s first welfare complex to be established in Sri Aman to serve as model for other states

SRI AMAN: The nation’s first Rumah Penyayang (integrated care complex)under the one-stop centre concept is being built here and will be operational soon.

According to Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, construction of the integrated complex is underway at Taman Srijaya.

“My ministry is currently in discussion with the building developer on purchasing the building to establish ‘Kompleks Penyayang’ once it is completed,” she said at a press conference after officiating at the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) Batang Lupar constituency distribution ceremony at Sri Aman Civic Centre yesterday.    The two-storey complex, which will accommodate Welfare Department offices, will include facilities such as pre-schools (Taska), senior citizen centre, children activity centre, meeting room as well as agencies involved in welfare.

“The complex with 32 rooms will also provide facilities for disabled people to be self-reliant and that it would serve as a pilot project, before others are implemented in other states.

“These agencies will relocate to the complex soon and this will provide added convenience to the community to enquire on matters regarding welfare,” said Rohani, who is also Batang Lupar MP.

She added that ‘Komplex Penyayang’ may also be establishing ‘Anjung Kasih’ at its premises to provide those with family or relatives warded at the hospital with temporary accommodation.

“If the complex is not located far from the hospital in Sri Aman, we may look into providing this facility here,” she explained.

Among those present at the ceremony were Lingga assemblywoman Simoi Peri, Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor, Sri Aman district officer Ismawie Salleh as well as Temenggong Abang Bohari Abang Zen.
