SARIKEI: Persatuan Bomba Sukarekawan Lubuk Lemba, Ulu Sarikei is now fully geared to face emergency calls in the area.
Formed on March 11 last year, the only volunteer fire-fighting unit in the district has undergone seven sessions of monthly trainings organised by the district Fire and Rescue Dept.
Besides, the 41-member unit has received fire-fighting equipment and other gears from the district Fire and Rescue station.
It district chief, Suna Kaha, had in Nov last year handed over two units of plain nozzle, diffuser nozzle (1), dividing breeching (1),false spindle (1) double outlet stand pipe (1), 2.5-inch gloves (10) and fire safety boot (10 pairs) (5 )’ 1.75-inch hose (1), helmet (5), fire safety jacket (5) and fire safety trunks (5 pairs).
Two weeks ago an officer from the district station handed over 30 T-shirts to the association when conducting a training session there.
Suna described the setting up of the volunteer fire-fighting unit in the area (Ulu Sarikei) as most appropriate.
“Their service is very significant especially in saving lives and properties in the event of fires. Their services are also very much needed while waiting for the arrival of firemen,” he said
Since they are close to the scene of fires and knowing the area well, they could act smoothly and promptly, he added.
He added that they would continue to render their assistance to the volunteer unit especially in providing trainings and provision of logistics.
