MIRI: The state Department of Registration (JPN) yesterday said it rejected an application by Gagah Brundang to get a new identity card (IC) as he did not have supporting documents.
In a press statement emailed to The Borneo Post here, JPN Kuching said there was no proof the complainant was born here, and he gave conflicting information to JPN in a series of interviews.
“In a news report in The Borneo Post dated Dec 10 this year, the complainant claimed that his IC was destroyed in a fire. However, we at JPN did not receive such information from him,” it said.
The statement also mentioned that the complainant’s fingerprints did not match his alleged old IC.
JPN personnel had tried to contact the complainant to tell him the status of his application, but he could not be reached.
“Hence, we would like to ask the complainant to go to the nearest JPN office to re-apply with strong proof of birth,” the statement said.
Last week (Dec 9) the complainant Gagah Brundang, 55, from Rh Ricky Marai Nanga Lait Tinjar Baram came to The Borneo Post office here to complain that he had waited 10 years to get a new IC after the old one was destroyed in a fire in 2003.
He claimed he had not received any update on the status of his application from JPN.
