BINTULU: Members of the public are reminded to be cautious of some people going around asking for monetary assistance.

Police chief Supt Madang Usat made the call following a case involving a 60-year-old woman who was conned of RM9,000 and a gold necklace worth RM500 to three suspects (two men and a woman) on Feb 25 in a purported application of BR1M 3.0.

The suspects told the woman that she had to pay some cash to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) if she wanted to receive BR1M 3.0 and other benefits.

Hearing this, she brought the suspects to a bank and withdrew RM9,000 in ASB savings account which she gave to the suspects.

“She even gave them her gold necklace worth RM500 to the suspects,” Madang said.

After that, the suspects drove her to the IRB Bintulu branch office and before they reached the destination, she was suddenly dropped by the roadside.

The woman then lodged a police report regarding the incident.

The police have, meanwhile, identified one of the suspects, the woman in her 40s who has criminal records and was under police bail. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
