DANGER LURKS: Unpredictable weather at Miri beach.

MIRI: Don’t bring children swimming in rough seas during the long school holidays.

This advice to parents came from Penghulu Samion Gani who said the rainy season is dangerous for swimming and activities at the beach, especially in the absence of adult supervision.

According to Samion, parents must find alternative safe recreational places within Miri city to spend with their children like Miri Public Park, Bulatan Park, Miri Heritage Centre and Petronas Museum.

“Be alert as towards yearend, the number of drowning cases increase during the school holidays,” Samion cautioned, adding that more children drown during high tide.

Samion who is also Rukun Tetangga Piasau Jaya Phase II chairman asked parents to monitor their children’s activities to make sure they are not involved in negative activities during the holidays.

Parents including JKKKs must be alert to flash floods and high tides brought by heavy rain. Unpredictable weather can cause flooding and endanger vehicles on the road.
