Parenting course for women to keep up with the new age

KUCHING: The Parental role in ensuring a happy and healthy family in the context of family relations is extremely important.

Assistant Minister of Welfare, Robert Lawson Chuat made this call on Sunday when he attended a parenting course at Kampung Sinar Budi Baru Multipurpose Hall, Batu Kawa here.

“Parents are responsible to make sure their children are being educated well and to ensure a healthy family, both physically and spiritually,” he said in a speech, according to a press release.

Chuat also expressed his hope that more of such courses will be held in the future.

“These courses will help parents to equip themselves with different aspects of parenting skills in order to be effective parents of the current age,” he said.

Close to 200 women from different associations and organisations had attended the course organised by Persatuan Kaum Wanita Batu Kawa in collaboration with Mas Gading Community College.

The course was aimed at preparing parents, especially mothers, in educating their children at an early stage as well as to strengthen family relationships.

Ahmad Nordin Zainuddin, course speaker, spoke on how to handle teenage social problems and the role of excellent parents in shaping excellent children. Talks were given by Theresa Udam and Bantuan Guaman from the Sarawak Women’s Bureau.

Also present at the course were Mas Gading Community College director Chow Tio Kiong, Sarawak Women’s Bureau director, Noriah Ahmad, , Padawan Municipal Council chairman, Lo Khere Chiang
who is also the organizing chairman, Persatuan Kaum Wanita Batu Kawa chairperson, Lina Jomek and other community leaders.
