SERIAN: A variety of counterfeit branded clothing and goods worth up to RM18,000 were seized from a clothing store here yesterday.
A Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism spokesman said all the items were seized under Section 8(2)(b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.
“Goods such as caps, belts, bags and pants suspected of being counterfeit goods estimated at more than RM18,000 have been seized for further investigation.
“The case is being investigated for the offence of supplying goods with a false trade description as though they are subject to all the rights in relation to a registered trade mark,” he said.
The maximum fine for an individual is RM10,000 for each item, while for corporations the fine is a maximum RM15,000.
“We will carry out our inspections from time to time,” added the spokesman.
