KUCHING: Wanita SPDP is itching for action, and hopes the party’s top leadership would field at least one woman candidate in the 11th state polls.

However, its chief Datuk Chiew Yen Chew said her movement was not interested in Pakan as they preferred to leave it to their president Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom to defend. SPDP traditionally has eight state seats.

The others are Bekenu, Tasik Biru, Krian, Meluan, Marudi, Ba Kelalan, and Batu Danau.

“We leave Pakan for our president, but we don’t mind being given any other seat,” she told reporters after chairing the wing’s meeting at party headquarters here yesterday.

Asked whether Wanita SPDP would object should Rosey returned to the party and defend her seat in the 11th state polls, Chiew said they were not in the position to comment.

“We have no comment on that. We leave it to our leaders because they know what is right. All I can say is she (Rosey) and other women YBs (reps) are doing fantastic jobs, and we are confident if given the chance our candidate can do the same, if not better.”

On their plans for this year, Chiew said Wanita SPDP would focus more on touch-base programmes as they believed meeting-the-people sessions must be done regularly.

“At the moment we have projects already confirmed, such as the `We Care’ walkathon, which is to be carried out in Miri in May to raise funds for our ongoing Health Awareness Campaign in the rural areas throughout the state.

“Our Health Awareness Campaign started seven years ago. In addition, we also have many activities and programmes in mind.”
