KUCHING: SUPP vice-president Datuk Lily Yong hoped party members would always use their head when confronted with rumours as most rumours were baseless.

Citing rumours of the formation of a new party to accommodate SUPP members in the event SUPP were deregistered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), she said she believed it was concocted to stoke political animosity.

Speaking at SUPP Kuching branch Chinese New Year Dinner here on Friday, Yong opined the party would survive the current crisis and its registration would not be revoked.

“(Based on BN consultation and consensus), any new party applying to join the BN (Barisan Nasional) must get consensus from all BN components.

“If it is objected by one BN component party, it cannot become a BN component member,” said Yong, who is also SUPP Kuching branch chief.

On a related matter, Yong wailed the party’s losses in state and parliamentary elections in recent years.

However, she said the dismal results, which caused the party to lose its strength and confidence, were not due to lack of effort, but due to open quarrels among its leaders.

She stressed that politicians cannot just rely on rhetoric for publicity, but must also have long term planning to help resolve the people’s problems.

The dinner was attended by about 200 SUPP members. Also present were secretary-general Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, assistant publicity and information secretary Sih Hua Tong, organising chairpersons Vicky Lim and Kapitan Dato Hii Ting Sing.
