KUCHING: ‘Tuku Iho – Living Legacy of the Maori’ – an exhibition of time-honoured Maori artwork by the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute – will be held at the Sarawak Art Museum next month.

The month-long exhibition from March 14 will feature more than 50 wood carvings; jade, stone and bone carvings; weaving; and canoe building.

“This exhibition is a platform for us to showcase the Maori living legacy. Various arts, crafts and culture will be exhibited during the one-month exhibition for the public to see,” said New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia David Gregory Pine during his visit to the Sarawak Museum yesterday.

He said the exhibition, being held for the first time here, is in conjunction with New Zealand Week.

Museum Department director Ipoi Datan said the exhibition would be an interesting look at New Zealand’s culture.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang is scheduled to officially open the exhibition on March 14.
