KUCHING: At least 500 people from all walks of life are expected at a public forum ‘The Relevancy of SUPP’ that focuses on the political scenario in Sarawak.
Believed to be the first of its kind held here, the forum will enlighten participants on the politics of Sarawak as well as issues affecting all segments of the community.
SUPP Kuching branch, Padungan Youth Movement and Kuching Youth Get Together Centre are jointly organising the forum scheduled for March 16 at Hilton Kuching Hotel.
Prof Dr Jeniri Amir, political analyst at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will be the moderator at the forum to take place from 1pm to 4.30pm.
Organising chairman Ting Wei Tzen said the forum is meant for any individual with an interest in politics to understand underlying issues affecting Sarawakians.
“It will serve as an opportunity for us to learn about political development in Sarawak. Three renowned speakers have been invited to the forum, their names to be disclosed the following week,” Ting told a news conference at a leading hotel here yesterday.
An academic from Peninsular Malaysia and veteran community and political leaders would be among the panellists at the forum.
Peter Pui who is on the organising committee said the forum would neither touch on nor entertain sensitive issues such as those pertaining to religion and personal attacks.
“It will be a discussion for the purpose of learning and communicating with one another. We urge all young people to join us at the forum next month.
“The forum will help us understand issues we face every day. If the coming forum is a success, we will consider organising more such events for the public in the near future.”
“We are expecting a good turnout for the forum, which also aims to see if SUPP is still relevant — not just to the Chinese but all communities in Sarawak.”
