MARUDI: The Marudi District Council (MDC) has been called on to constantly monitor the monsoon drains from the town area to Kampung Cina.
Chong Chin Hui – a former councillor – said this is vital to prevent flash flooding.
“If the drains are not monitored, then the drains will easily be overgrown with grass and be blocked with earth and debris. Because of that, when there is a little rain, the drains will become full and result in flash floods,” he said.
“I had from time to time raised this problem within my time serving as councillor but my complaints haven’t been look into by the authorities.”
He added that the appointed and selected contractors should do their duties accordingly and hoped the newly appointed councillors would look into the matter seriously.
