KANOWIT: Rural community leaders have been urged to understand the government policies so as to better guide the people at the grassroots level.

Assistant Land Development Minister Datuk Gramong Juna said this was required of leaders who acted as the bridge between the government and the people.

“If community leaders fail to understand government policies, the people under their care probably would not understand either and this can cause problems,” he said when officiating at a ceremony to celebrate the reappointment of Juin Adan as penghulu for Nanga Kabah and Nanga Dap areas here for another term.

The function was held at Rumah Assay Abol in Nanga Kabah at Nibong-Tada Road on Saturday.

Gramong, who is Machan assemblyman, urged community leaders to be good role models for the community in terms of attitude and integrity.

He said they must stand solidly behind the government and carry out their duty and responsibility with sincerity for the benefit of the people under their care.

At the same function, he announced a RM15,000 minor rural project grant for Rumah Assay.

Among those present were Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, political secretary to the chief minister Maurice Giri, Tuai Rumah Assay Abol and Penghulu Juin.
