KUCHING: On Jan 21, a general worker, Benedick Guan Christopher died when his head was crushed by a cargo lift at the work place here.

Benedict was killed when he had just worked for 12 days with a private company since Jan 10.

Even though the victim had worked for only 12 days and had not contributed to the Social Security Organisation (Socso), he was eligible for protection under Socso’s Employment Injury Insurance Scheme.

Sarawak Socso manager John Riba Marin said in this case even though both the employer and employee had not made their contributions, the victim was a legitimate employee of the company which reported the incident and as such he was covered by Socso.

The victim’s parents, Christopher Mariana Suda and Golin Meres and his three children aged 16, 15, and 13 years were eligible to receive the Dependents’ Benefit of RM300 monthly pension from Socso.

Socso also paid the family RM1,500 under its funeral benefit. — Bernama
