KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras worth RM1 million at MJC Batu Kawah, Taman Desa Wira and City Mall.
MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said 24 units will be installed at MJC, nine at Taman Desa Wira and 20 at City Mall.
“At the moment, the council has not received the approval letter, but I think it will be coming soon,” Lo said in a text message.
The installation of CCTV cameras was among the safe city concept efforts announced by the government several years ago to deter crimes such as snatch theft.
Lo added that the council has asked for a total budget of RM2.37 million this year, including for the installation of CCTV systems.
The balance would be used for the improvement of drains within its jurisdiction.
