MARUDI: Fifty-seven per cent of the councillors for Marudi District Council (MDC) are new faces.

Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran called on the new councillors to ensure they live up to the rising expectations of the public.

“New councillors fuelled by enthusiasm may think that they can deliver everything that the old councillors
could not, but that may not be the case as the old guard can always share their experience, and the BN (Barisan Nasional) government has always insisted on team work,” he said during the MDC swearing-in ceremony yesterday.

“You are like the cabinet of local government where decisions are made, problems or issues are resolved and you are accountable to this responsibility entrusted to you.”

The 30 councillors are led by Marudi District Officer Mackos Sibong and MDC deputy chairman Eda Igar.

Joining them are councillors Yiap Fun Lee, Tiong Kee Chung, Lucy Chua, Tie Kah Tuang, Jok Ngau, Charles Balang Seling, Jau Eng Aran, Simpson Njock Lenjau, Jarau Braim, Garry Hashim Wan, Randie Bundan, John Terawe Kuda, Joseph Darius Lajo, William Ngadan Anum, Anthony Jelma, Suring Jelian, Kalang Ami, Teo Kwang Peng, Ogman Saib, Sim Boon Seng, Thomas Lintong, Andrious Ding, Chong Chit Kheng, Nelson Nulai Belong, Huang Huat Ping, Huong Nguoh Yuin, Joshua Dungkong and Mohd Azreen Ahmad.

Among those present at the swearing-in ceremony were Baram Member of Parliament Anyi Ngau and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.

Last year, MDC won the gold medal for the Chief Minister’s Quality Award as well as the best counter service.
