BINTULU: The Surau Darul Taqwa Kampung Sebiew will soon have a compound for it to hold various community-oriented activities, thanks to a RM10,000 donation by Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip.
According to Kampung Sebiew headman Mahali Beji, the proposed site next to the surau would be developed towards accommodating events and programmes for the community going forward.
“At the moment, the village has no community hall; so the proposed site will be the future venue for community activities here,” he said when met after the presentation of the fund at the surau on Saturday evening, prior to breaking-of-fast and ‘Khatamal Al-Qural’ (Quran recital) programme.
Talib, who is Jepak assemblyman, handed the cheque over to Surau Darul Taqwa Kampung Sebiew Committee chairman Awang Hamady Pengiran Awang Latiff.
The assistant minister, in his capacity as chairman of Bintulu Islamic Welfare Trust Board (Lakib), also donated an audio system set worth RM1,550 to the surau committee. Later, Talib gave away cash aid to less-fortunate villagers.
