MIRI: Sports tourism plays a role in attracting more tourists to this city, says Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin. According to him, the various activities organised here would provide tourists with choices; whether to enjoy the beautiful scenery, take part in recreational activities or participate in sports events.
“Do not look down on sports tourism as it has its own attraction and fan base and based on sports activities organised previously, many tourists are attracted to participate,” he said at a press conference to announce the ‘Remote Control Power Boat Competition’ to be held at Jumbo Lake in Desa Senadin on July 25 and 26.
Executive director of Miri Housing Development Realty Sdn Bhd Edward Lau was also present. More than 100 remote control power boats from Sabah, Labuan, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Marudi will be taking part in the competition to start at 10am on July 25. The competition is organised by Sarawak National Youths Organisationa (Saberkas) Senadin unit and Miri Housing Development Realty Sdn Bhd.
Six categories will be competed namely, boats under 43cc (single boat) and 43cc (double boat), boat under 26cc (single boat) and boats 26cc and above (double boat) as well as boats under 29cc (single boat) and 29cc and above (double boat).
