MIRI: Villagers at Kampung Masjid in Kuala Baram here received an early Hari Raya gift with the completion of a wooden jetty recently.

The 300-meter jetty was completed under the minor rural project (MRP) fund of Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

“The villagers who approached me requested for assistance to build a jetty for the safety and convenience of those crossing the river to work at the sawmills on the other side. Fishermen including some schoolchildren can also make use of the jetty,” he said.

“The structure is now stronger and more stable as it was built using hardwood that can last long,” said Lee, adding that it was built by a local contractor.

He also said that additional features would be added to the jetty for the comfort and safety of its users.

In this context, Lee reminded those crossing the river to prioritise safety by not overloading their boat, to always use life jackets and observe the movement and activities along the river.
