KAPIT: Rumah Kayan Nyelang has been praised for being among the longhouses to have its Native Customary Rights (NCR) land surveyed under the NCR New Initiative.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) supreme council member Datuk Kristoffer Nyuak Bajok said Sungai Dia and Sungai Metah were now gazetted under Tuai Rumah Kayan Nyelang and Tuai Rumah Garai.
“I was informed that a group of Land and Survey officers had earlier conducted a dialogue on the NCR New Initiative survey under Section 18 of Land Code (Individual Land Survey) for Sungai Dia, Batang Rejang, Sungai Betu and Sungai Metah, Menuan areas here,” he said during a visit to the Pelagus state constituency recently.
He said the notifications on the NCR gazette under Section 6 of Land Code being displayed at the longhouses proved the government’s initiative to survey land for the natives in Sarawak.
“This NCR New Initiative by the federal and state governments is meant to address the requests by the NCR landowners for their land to be surveyed and issued titles. This initiative was announced by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on July 22, 2010,” he added.
The initiative involves perimeter surveys to delineate the boundaries between NCR land and state land.
Following the surveys, the NCR land is then gazetted as Native Communal Reserve under Section 6 of the Land Code.
NCR landowners must then determine the extent and boundaries of their respective parcels of land within the said reserve.
This is to enable the Land and Survey Department to survey the individual lots to be issued titles under Section 18 of the Land Code.
