KUCHING: Hope Place (Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching) continues with its endeavour to provide food aid and basic necessities for senior citizens here.

Its founder Kelvin Wan recently visited two sisters staying above a shop lot given by a Buddhist association, and handed over food rations to them.

The sisters, Liew Ah Keau, 63, and Liew Ah Mui, 65, informed Kelvin that their welfare cheques from Welfare Department were sometimes late.

Ah Keau is a widower with a son. However, he does not support her financially nor does he take care of her.

Ah Mui remains a spinster.

Both sisters work as school cleaners earning RM300 whenever they are capable of doing so.

This is because they suffer from chronic cases of gout and old age.

It is a daunting task for them to climb up and down the stairs in their condition.

They also suffer from other medical conditions related to their advanced age.

Currently they rent the room for RM100 monthly.

Hope Place is dedicated to helping senior citizens who do not have people to depend on. It appreciates and relies on the Kuching community’s continual support to continue transporting food rations and other basic necessities to all needy folks in their care.

For more information, Hope Place can be reached at 013-5672775 from 8.30am to 12.30pm from Mondays to Fridays.

Donations are also welcome, and receipts will be provided upon request.
