KUCHING: A middle-age passenger was killed after a car he was in overturned into a drain following a collision with a lorry along Jalan Datuk Amar Stephen Yong here yesterday.
The deceased, identified as 51-year-old Lee Joon Fatt, was in the front passenger seat of a Perodua Myvi driven by his friend, who escaped with minor injuries, when the incident happened around 3.15pm.
The pair was said to be heading to Kampung Sinar Budi when their vehicle collided with a lorry at a traffic light intersection, resulting in the Myvi turning turtle and landing inside a small drain.
Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services Department and the Civil Defence Department were summoned to the scene to extricate the two victims from the wreckage. Lee was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel, and his body sent to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem.
Traffic police personnel were also on hand to investigate the fatal collision.
