MIRI: The government has come out with various programmes and assistance to ensure the people have all the opportunity to education in this country.
Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the government is fully aware of important role to be played by the younger generation as they are not only future leaders but will also provide the manpower to contribute to development and progress of the country.
“The government’s seriousness and concern about education are reflected through various programmes and assistance all the way from kindergartens to institutions of higher learning. This is to ensure that no one is denied education,” said Lee.
Speaking to pupils, parents and teachers at SK Kuala Baram 1, Kampung Masjid here, Lee said; “The presentation of school bags including stationeries and drinking bottles to school children was among the many programmes set up by the government to assist the people especially the low income group and the needy.”
A total of 119 children from kindergartens and primary schools in Kuala Baram yesterday received the assistance under Back to School, a programme under ‘Helping the People’ (MEMBARA).
The government also provide financial assistance such as scholarships and loans to enable students to continue their studies in institutions of higher learning.
“It is sad to see that some parents are using poverty as the reason for not sending their children to school. With the various government programs and assistance, there should be no more reason for denying children of education,” said Lee.
In this context, Lee urged the children to concentrate on their studies as education is the agent of change.
Also present at function organised by Miri Division of Special Affair Department (JASA) were SK Kuala Baram 1 headmaster, Maseri Matnor and JASA information officer Dayang Norazelina Hamdan.
