KUCHING: The state government awarded a total of 389 civil servants from 19 government agencies with the Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia (PPS) better known as long service medal.
Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu gave away the awards at the new state legislature hall yesterday on behalf of Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and the state government.
Among those who received their medals yesterday were High Court Judge (II) Kuching Dato Rodzariah Bujang who served the court for 29 years, Head Judge of Syriah Court, Datu Mohamed Ali Mohamed Sheriff with 31 years in service, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women, Welfare and Family Development Rodziah Morshidi, Special Officer in the Chief Minister’s Department, James Enjeng who had served the office for 39 years.
The most number of recipients came from the state Education Department with 82, followed by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation with 48 recipients and state Health Department, 44 recipients.
Brooke Dockyard And Engineering Works Corporation’s two employees Othman Eni and Naja Lebak had served the government-linked agency for 41 years.
PPS is only given to those who had served continuously for 20 years or 25 years collectively and shown excellent record in service supported by the head of department.
They must be clear of any form of investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) with no record of disciplinary action.
Present at the ceremony were state Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Asfia Awang Nassar, Land Development Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and other cabinet ministers, assistant ministers and heads of departments.
