KUCHING: A soldier who allegedly raped a minor was placed on four-day remand from yesterday to facilitate investigation.

Court Registrar Aida Montong allowed the remand application by the police against the suspect who hails from Simunjan.

The remand order expires on Feb 10.

It was reported that the 17-year-old who is now four months pregnant lodged a police report against the married soldier after he refused to marry her.

She claimed that they were having sexual intercourse on more than 10 occasions since two years ago when she was a minor.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail and whipping.

It is believed that the suspect had told the girl he was a bachelor and promised to marry her, but changed his mind after learning of her pregnancy.
