KUCHING: Change and political reforms will come after Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud retires, observes state PKR vice-chairman See Chee How.
See, who is also Batu Lintang assemblyman, said the process of change was the norm in democracy and Taib would be most suitable as the head of state.
He added that they being in the opposition camp had no say in the appointment of the head of state but said that Taib would be the most suitable person to succeed the present head of state.
“When it does happen he (Taib) will be the most affluent and one of the most intelligent and capable heads of states in Malaysia,” See said in comment about the impending retirement of the chief minister.
“He (Taib) has indicated before the last state election that this could be his last term. Along the way there have been signals that the chief minister would step down midway through this term, which will end in 2016.
“It could be tomorrow, it could be next year. It could be anytime but it is definitely within this term. As much as we like him to carry on as the chief minister, age is catching up.
“Preparation needs to be done for someone to take over the post,” Asajaya assemblyman Abdul Karim was reported to have said earlier.
Karim also said there must be something important that Taib wanted to say at PBB meeting tomorrow and with state BN MPs and assemblymen on Sunday.
