KUCHING: Land Custody and Development Authority (Pelita), catalyst of land development in the state, has transformed into a dynamic and sustainable organisation since its inception in 1981.
This was disclosed by its general manager Datu Dr Sulaiman Hussaini, who said Pelita and its holding group Pelita Holdings Sdn Bhd (PHSB) had a group asset worth RM1.825 billion and Pelita’s revenue for last year was RM43.50 million.
“Pelita, through its subsidiaries, had created another milestone as one of the GLCs (government-linked companies) that had declared dividend to the state for the past two consecutive years since 2012.
“Pelita had also contributed business tithe to Bailtumal every year, since 2011,” he said in his speech at Pelita Appreciation Dinner 2014 at a leading hotel here on Wednesday.
Last year, Sulaiman said, PHSB declared dividend of RM1 million to Pelita, and another RM1 million would be paid this year.
He added that Pelita also paid business tithe of RM400,000 in 2012 and RM765,000 last year.
In thanking Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud for placing trust on Pelita to develop Darul Hana at Kampung Seberang Hilir in Kuching and in the redevelopment of Kampung Datu in Sibu, Sulaiman assured the state government that Pelita would give its full commitment to ensure the success of the projects.
On the Waterfront Extension project undertaken jointly by Pelita and Ibraco Bhd, he said it was another plan to transform Sungai Sarawak riverbank into a multi-purpose waterfront esplanade providing an ideal venue for outdoor activities that will enhance the natural beauty of Sungai Sarawak.
“All these developments will not be materialised without the support from the state government under the guidance of YAB Pehin Sri (Abdul Taib Mahmud).
“We would also like to thank all the government agencies, ministries involved and our joint-venture partners who have been very supportive to us all this while.”
In tandem with the transformation programme initiated by the state government to
transform the state public service to be more relevant and versatile, Sulaiman said Pelita had also adopted the ‘Balance Score Card’ as a measurement of organisation and individual key performance.
He said the construction of Pelita’s new corporate office at The Isthmus marks another breakthrough in Pelita’s success stories.
“This corporate office will facilitate Pelita to operate more effectively and efficiently as the premises would have ample office space and be equipped with up-to-date facilities that would help to effectively manage its land bank, properties and plantations.”
