SIBU: Traders at the Sibu Central Market were pleasantly surprised yesterday when the Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King and his deputy Dato Andrew Wong Kee Yew paid them a Chinese New Year visit.
The visitors were greeted by a lion dance performance upon their arrival at the market.
The ‘god of fortune’ was also there to greet them.
Later, the duo went from stall to stall to exchange CNY greetings with the traders, but missing out on a few stalls due to time constraint.
Sibu Central Market Hawkers’ Association prepared 250 ‘ang pows’ and 10 boxes of mandarin oranges for distribution to traders and people around.
Its chairman Yiing Chung Ming said the visit of Tiong and Wong would go a long way to strengthen cooperation between the traders and the council.
