KUCHING: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped after she was duped into following two men who claimed to be officers from the state religious department.

District police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad said based on a police report lodged by the victim, the incident happened near the Tanah Putih government clinic around 8.30pm on Monday when she and her boyfriend were practising riding a motorcycle.

According to him, two men claiming to be state religious department officers approached the pair and accused them of committing an offence, before ordering the girl to follow them back to their office for questioning.

Instead, they brought her to a secluded location — believed to be a secondary jungle somewhere in the Bako area — where they took turns to rape her.

Her boyfriend, meanwhile, had sensed something amiss when the ‘officers’ left with the girl and went to her family’s house to inform them of the incident.

Her worried family went searching for her but failed to locate her, and only learned what had happened when she returned home later that night and related her ordeal.

“A medical check-up confirmed injuries on the victim’s private part. Initial investigation found that the victim was unable to properly identify the two men — believed to be locals — as it was dark,” said Roslan.

In a separate case, a pregnant teenager lodged a rape report against a married soldier.

The 17-year-old claimed that she had sex with the serviceman on more than 10 occasions —beginning in August 2012 when she was still only 15. Their most recent rendezvous was at a budget hotel in Padungan on Jan 5 this year.

According to Roslan, the soldier had told the girl he was a bachelor and promised to marry her, but appeared to change his mind after learning she was four months’ pregnant.

“The teen then went to his village in Simunjan to confront him on his promise where she learned that he was, in fact, already married with two children,” he added.

Both cases are being investigated as rape under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
